1Overview
Overview

The Bealey Spur Track begins with a gentle climb up the spur, through mountain-beech forest. Higher up, hike through tussock grasslands and subalpine scrub passing near several tarns along the way. There are plenty of opportunities to pause and take in panoramic views of the Waimakariri River valley and the surrounding alpine landscape. In summer the red-flowering mistletoe is striking against the dramatic backdrop of mountains, waterfalls and valleys. The track ends at the historic Bealey Spur Hut, a relic from the area's early sheep grazing days. Enjoy a scenic picnic lunch overlooking the valley before returning to the trailhead via the same track.
