Experience the beauty of the Abel Tasman Coast Track - one of New Zealand's Great Walks - with a rewarding journey to the secluded Awaroa Lodge
The Abel Tasman Coast Track is one of New Zealand’s Great Walks, celebrated for its golden beaches, turquoise bays, and lush coastal forest. After a short boat ride to an area near Tonga Island - a marine reserve renowned for its underwater life - set out on a rewarding section of the Abel Tasman Coastal Track to Awaroa Bay. The trail winds through native bush and past secluded coves including the picture-perfect Onetahuti Bay, where an all-tide bridge and boardwalk crosses an inlet. From here, the track climbs up and over Tonga Saddle before descending to Awaroa Inlet. This tranquil beach features an eco-lodge on its shores, and is only accessible on foot or by boat, guaranteeing a peaceful night deep within the National Park. Here you can explore the nearby Awaroa Estuary, crossing its tidal flats at low tide, or simply relax and soak in the serenity of this remarkable landscape.
Year-round, but recommended October to April in the Great Walk season
Note: The Abel Tasman Coastal Track is open year-round, however some lodges within the National Park are closed in the winter months.
