Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1

Launceston to Flinders Island (walking distance: approx. 2-3km)

You will be collected from your central Launceston accommodation at around 7 am, and transferred by road to Bridport Airport where you will embark on a scenic morning flight to Flinders Island. After a detailed briefing of the days ahead, the first walk begins along the coastline to Castle Rock, one of Flinders Island's most famous landmarks. The afternoon features an important insight into the island's chequered cultural history as you explore the relics of Wybalenna, the notorious site of a failed Indigenous resettlement scheme in the mid-1800s. Continuing north, arrive at a private seaside Eco-Comfort Camp - your home base for the next five nights. Enjoy a hot shower and settle in before joining your fellow walkers for a delicious dinner prepared by your guides.

Day 2

Mt Killiecrankie and The Docks (walking distance: approx. 10-12km)

After a hearty breakfast at camp, there's a short drive to the start of today's walk, which involves a moderately challenging climb up Mt Killiecrankie. There's plenty of time to soak up the spectacular views across the beautiful bay and surrounding coast before beginning the descent toward the rocky coastline of Stacky's Bight. Here you'll enjoy a scenic lunch stop and a refreshing swim. Well-fed and recharged, the walk continues to 'The Docks', one of Flinders Island's secret gems where the burnt orange of the lichen-encrusted granite outcrops contrasts beautifully with the white sand and turquoise bay. You'll then be transferred back to camp where a rewarding shower and an enjoyable evening sharing stories with new friends await.

Day 3

North East River and Palana (walking distance: approx. 8-9km)

Today you'll explore one of Flinders Island's most remote and pristine corners. Starting at the North East River - the island's northernmost point - discover rock pools, rugged granite outcrops and the impressive dunes of Palana while taking in stunning coastal views of the Sister Islands. Upon reaching the tiny settlement of Palana, you may opt for a swim or gentle wade to cool off before the drive back to camp. After another wonderful dinner, settle into your tent and gaze up at the starry night sky through the clear roof.

On a clear day, you may even spot the outer islands and the northern coast of mainland Tasmania. Enjoy an unforgettable lunch where you'll feel like you're on top of the world, before making the long descent down the mountain. Continue to Fotheringate Bay where you'll have the opportunity for a relaxing swim and then it's back to camp for one last night.

After stopping for a hot drink in Whitemark - the island's main residential and business centre - you'll be transferred to Big River Road to commence today's hike. Considered one of Tasmania's Great Short Walks, and featuring some of its most photographed beaches, the Trousers Point circuit offers constantly changing views across the Bass Strait Islands in one direction and Mt Strzelecki in the other. Lunch is a celebratory affair as you reflect on your Flinders Island adventure, before flying back to Bridport in the afternoon.
