Enjoy the ultimate South Australian adventure, with luxury accommodation, guided walks and exceptional local food and wine in the Flinders Ranges and the Barossa Valley. Your journey begins with a private road transfer from Adelaide to the historic Arkaba Homestead in the Flinders Ranges. Explore the Arkaba Conservancy and the surrounding Elder and Flinders Ranges with guided walks across three days including a section of the Heysen trail. You'll return each night to your luxury lodge base at the Homestead, where locally inspired food and wine are championed. On Day 5 continue to the Barossa Valley enjoying lunch and wine tasting en route at one of the region's finest wineries, before arriving at The Louise, your luxury Barossa base. Daily breakfast, evening drinks and canapes and gourmet dinners at the award-winning onsite restaurant Appellation are included, along with e-bikes to explore the Valley at your leisure. Your journey ends back in Adelaide.

    Day-by-Day Itinerary

    Day 1

    Your journey begins with a scenic five-hour road transfer to the Flinders Ranges from Adelaide. You'll arrive at Arkaba Homestead in time for an afternoon safari drive taking in views of the Elder and Flinders Ranges, and the 60,000 acres of this nature conservancy. You'll be sure to spot emus and kangaroos, as you enjoy a sundowner drink on top of the ranges with your Arkaba hosts. Later enjoy a three-course dinner and your favourite South Australian wines at the Homestead.

    Day 2

    Enjoy breakfast at the Homestead before setting off for your day's adventure. Today we recommend a guided walk exploring shady Arkaba Creek, where you'll witness how the ancient creek lines carve their way through Arkaba’s landscape and spot plentiful birdlife, including galahs, honeyeaters and parrots. After lunch, enjoy the undulating hills of the ancient alluvial soil as you continue along Elder Range ridge tops before climbing Arkaba Hill and finally descending back to the comfort of the Homestead. Today's suggested walk is approximately 14 km (5-6 hours).

    Day 3

    Following breakfast, explore the wildlife and landscape of Arkaba Conservancy and learn of the benefits it has brought to the Flinders Ranges. Pass undulating terrain of acacia and she-oak groves, and permanent water sources that are an important life source for native kangaroos, emus, parrots and other local wildlife. Return to the Arkaba Homestead in time for a bush-inspired late lunch, and enjoy some time to put your feet up this afternoon before another wonderful sundowner drinks and dinner. Today's suggested walk is 14 km (5-6 hours).

    Day 4

    After an early breakfast prepared by Arkaba’s chef, your guides will lead you into the breathtaking valleys and ranges of the Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park. You will pass the impressive Wilpena Pound on your way to Bunyeroo Valley. Following the Wilcolo track you'll explore some of the more remote sections of the park and take in views of the ABC and Heysen Ranges on your walk. The wildlife viewing opportunities continue today with a chance to spot the rare yellow-footed rock wallaby that is endemic to this region. Today's suggested walk covers 11 km (4-5 hours).

    Day 5

    After breakfast and farewelling your Arkaba Homestead hosts, sit back and relax on your private journey to the Barossa Valley. Enroute you'll visit renowned St Hugo Winery, where you'll enjoy a delicious lunch, estate tour and wine tasting experience. After lunch, your driver will continue to The Louise, one of the Luxury Lodges of Australia, and your base for the next two nights. This evening, meet and mingle with fellow guests over pre-dinner drinks and canapés, served in the lounge as the sun sets over the valley vineyards before sitting down to a gourmet dinner at The Louise's award-winning restaurant Appellation.

    Day 6

    Following a delicious breakfast this morning, the day is yours to relax onsite or explore the Barossa Valley at your leisure. An e-bike is at your disposal to allow you to explore the many vineyards and providores nearby with ease. We'll be happy to arrange bookings for lunch at a recommended winery, or let us know if we can tailor your day out with a bespoke experience (some available exclusively to The Louise guests). Later the pool or spa are great places to unwind. Tonight, toast the end of your journey with a special cocktail or your new favourite Barossa wine before another wonderful Appellation dinner.

    Day 7

    Enjoy a leisurely lie-in and late breakfast this morning. After checking out, your private driver will whisk you back to Adelaide for your return home or onward journey.

    Adelaide and the Fleurieu Pensinula, which includes Kangaroo Island and Deep Creek, enjoy a Mediterranean climate similar to Perth. This region experiences mild rainfall with the wettest months in June July and August, but fine winter days are not uncommon here.
