Overview

The Kimberley region of Western Australia brings to mind epic adventures and the creeks and rivers that carve their way through this vast landscape. The East Kimberly is accessible via Kununurra and includes El Questro Wilderness Park and Purnululu National Park (home of the Bungle Bungles). The west Kimberley region includes the coastal resort town of Broome, which is a good staging post for experiencing the Horizontal Falls, Cape Leveque, and Pearl Farms like Cygnet Bay. How long is the El Questro Gorge Walk?

The El Questro Gorge Walk is 7.2 km long. Although more challenging, this is a fun walk through the narrow gorge with steep rock walls. It takes hikers anywhere between 3 to 5 hours to complete. For those wanting to avoid boulder climbing, there is the option to return after reaching the halfway pool. If you have the time and the upper body strength, it's definitely worth continuing all the way to the El Questro Waterfall and plunge pool.

When is the best time to visit WA?

Western Australia is a vast State with two distinct weather zones dictating the best time to visit. The northern third of the State including Broome and the Kimberley experience warm dry winters and humid wet summer months between November and March.

The Kimberley region of WA offers one for the most dramatic landscape in the whole country. Following the indigenous seasons, the best time to visit the Kimberley is anytime other than the Lanja (build-up) and Man-gala (monsoon) between November and March.
